Selling Daniel Agger is a bad move

With confirmed departure of defender Daniel Agger to his boyhood club Brondby, Liverpool are left with Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates. It seems likely that Coates would be sent on loan. That leaves us with four centrebacks. It  is obvious that Lovren will lead the defence. Although I was very impressed with his performance last season for Southamton, but bringing him to fill Agger's shoes is not a smart move by Brandon Rodgers. Had he been brought as Kolo's replacement, I would have kept my mouth shut.

Agger has lot more to offer than Toure, though latter is more experienced but he keeps making stupid mistakes. We all know what happened last season. Some of his defensive blunders was the reason behind LFC's defeat. These things happen but not on a regular basis. Agger was a reliable centreback. He keeps calm and plays possession based football. He has a rocket of a shot. He is one of the most talented ball playing footballer in the world. His playing style is suits Rodger's philosophy. Also, he was loyal, a triat so rare these days. He admitted turning down offers from top clubs in Premier League and La Liga because he loves Liverpool.

Yes, he went down the pecking order upon arrival of Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure last season. Proneness to Injury had a major role to play in his decline. Had he been able to steer clear of injury, his story would have been different. That being said, if he had chosen to stay and fight for his place this season then it would have benefitted the club. I still consider him as a defender of international pedigree.

Reds have four defenders now. If even one gets injured then the Rodgers will have a real problem in maintaining the last line of defence. Dejan Lovren is a really good defender but he needs time to adapt. Manchester City tore our defence apart in the last game. Liverpool lost that game because of errors committed by new signings Lovren and Moreno. With Champions League back in Anfield, we need someone with experience to guide the team, someone who knows the club inside out. Agger could've been that someone.

Liverpool have lost a player who is not driven by financial ambition. A player who lives and breathes football. Someone for whom, words like 'loyalty' and 'passion' means everything.

The plight of the poor in India

Migrant workers with their family on the road as they look to head back to village .  Credit/Scroll.in On March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. States sealed their borders and transport came to a halt. Little did anyone know, at the time, the effect it would have on the lives of migrant workers, left to fend for themselves. With all avenues of making money shut, many agitated workers staged demonstration, demanding trains and buses to transport to their native places. Several thronged to the railway and bus stations, flouting social distancing rules and putting themselves and others at risk, all in vain. Clashes erupted at many places including Mumbai and Surat, forcing the police to resort to lathi charge. PM's slogan 'stay home, stay safe' meant little to these workers, who had families to feed. The choice was to either die of hunger or take a chance with the deadly coronavirus and head...

SHOCKS AND SURPRISES = 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP

I was in shock to see the result of the match. I couldn't believe what i saw. Not that I expected them to win but never in my wildest dream i expected them to go down this way. I thought a nation that lives and breathes football would atleast put up a fight but no, they didn't, there was no coordination or discipline. There were defensive lapses. Allowing the opposition's player to roam freely in the box cost them dearly. Running around aimlessly did not help their cause either. It was humiliating to watch the game after awhile. Not to take anything away from the winners but the losing team deserved what they got. For those don't know, I am talking about the FIFA World Cup Semi-final match between Germany and Brazil. The former annihilated the latter. The scoreline was 7-1. Yes, Germans scored seven goals against the team who were considered favourite to win this tournament. It was a stunning victory for Die Mannschaft. They were merciless in front of the goal and th...

Embracing Life: A Tale of Love Found

Once upon a time, a boy didn’t know how to love. He figured he would learn the process and nuances with time and use it to find the girl of his dreams. Life, however, had something else planned for him. He would step back whenever he found someone who understood him and was willing to be with him. He would become hesitant, and the girl would leave him. He still had hopes that love would find him. But it didn’t. Time passed, and he crossed the ideal age of marriage, which he didn’t know existed. He began to think that maybe love wasn't meant for him, that he was destined to live a life without a partner.  The boy, now a man, poured his energy into his work and hobbies, finding solace in life's small victories and joys. He adopted a dog named Ollie, who became his faithful companion and confidant. Together, they would go on long walks and explore the world around them.  One day, while he was walking Ollie in a nearby park, he noticed a woman sitting alone on a bench, sketc...
